Why it lands at the table
Cascadia is set in the Pacific Northwest. Each player builds a landscape of hexagonal habitat tiles and places wildlife on them: bears, elk, salmon, hawks and foxes.
Turns are calm and quick. You take one tile and one animal from a small market and fit them into your growing map. Each animal scores in its own way, bears in pairs, salmon in runs, foxes next to a mix of other animals, so every placement is a small decision.
It won the Spiel des Jahres in 2022 and it is easy to see why: rules in five minutes, and a satisfying final count where a well-planned river or a long mountain range pays off.
How it plays
- 01
Take one of four habitat tile and wildlife token pairs from the centre.
- 02
Place the tile next to your existing tiles, and the animal on a habitat that allows it.
- 03
Use nature tokens to break the pairs or refresh the market.
- 04
Play until the habitat tiles run out.
- 05
Score wildlife by this game's scoring cards, plus your largest habitat areas.
