Why it lands at the table
Frostpunk: The Board Game brings the video game to the table as a co-operative survival city builder. The players are advisers to a settlement in an endless winter, and the whole city depends on one generator.
Each round runs from morning to night: the generator is fed, the weather turns, workers and engineers are sent to buildings and resource sites, then everyone has to be fed and housed. Working in the cold makes people sick. Pushing the generator harder keeps them warm but risks a breakdown.
It is heavy and long, and the mood is serious. The evenings people remember are those where the group agreed a hard law or sent an expedition into the snow and it held, or did not.
How it plays
- 01
Fuel the generator and check the weather for the round.
- 02
Place workers on buildings and resource spaces; cold places make them sick.
- 03
Build, research, pass laws and send expeditions as the city's needs grow.
- 04
Feed and shelter everyone at dusk and night, tracking discontent and hope.
- 05
Meet the scenario's goals together before the city collapses.
