Why it lands at the table
Splendor puts players in the role of gem merchants building up mines, transport and shops. The pieces are heavy chips in five gem colours, plus gold.
Each card you buy gives a permanent discount on future cards, so a slow start turns into a fast engine. Nobles visit the first player to collect the right cards.
It is short and calm, with a clear finish at fifteen points. The moment of satisfaction is buying an expensive card for almost nothing.
How it plays
- 01
Take gem chips: three different colours, or two of one colour.
- 02
Or reserve a card and take a gold chip.
- 03
Or buy a card with chips, using the gem bonuses from your earlier cards.
- 04
Nobles come to you when your cards meet their requirements.
- 05
When someone reaches fifteen points, finish the round; the highest score wins.
